How to set the number of versions to keep?

Hi,

We're busy developing our new website on Cascade Server and came across a little problem.

One of our developers overwrote some code on a template file a few days ago. So we want to look back at the version from last week to retrieve that code.

The problem is that Cascade is only showing the last 20 versions. The code we want is older than that.

In our development phase, we easily make 20 changes per day.

Where do I configure how many versions to keep?
And what about the chances of getting that old code from our file now? Are they gone?

Thanks,

Jeff

    Hi Jeff,

The setting you are looking for can be found in System Menu -> Preferences -> Content. The field name is called Max Asset Versions and the default is 20 (as you noticed).

While it is fine to increase this value, you will want to be careful because keeping so many versions for each asset can cause the database to grow quickly in size.

Be sure that you have plenty of hard drive space on your database server.

And what about the chances of getting that old code from our file now? Are they gone?

These changes are gone. If you have a recent backup of your database, you could potentially restore it but of course you would lose all changes made between now and when you last backed up.

    Hope this helps!
