Message Permissions

Does anyone know what permissions determine the users/groups someone can choose from when creating a new message? I have set up all of our groups and roles and assigned all of my users to their appropriate groups. When I log in as one of my contributors and try to create a new message, the only user that I can send the message to is myself and the only groups available are the groups I belong to.

Is there a permission or configuration somewhere that I have missed that allows a user to select any user in the system, including the admin, to send a message to?

Thanks,
Kris

    Hi Kris,

Try checking the Role of this contributor. Specifically, check to see if the ability to View all users is disabled (under Security Area Abilities).

Let me know if enabling that ability does the trick.

    Thanks

I had tried that earlier and it did not work. I tried again, just in case but that does not fix the issue.

    Thanks

Ah, it looks like the Role will also need the following abilities enabled:

    • Access the Administration area
    • Access Users, Groups and Roles

Let me know if that does the trick.

Hmmm ... so do I have to give every user access to the Administration area and Users, Groups and Roles, just to send messages? These are very basic users that I really don't want messing around in that area.

I will see if that does it though.

    Thanks

    Tim,

That did it, thanks! Out of curiosity, how is it that I gave the role access to Admin area and Users, Groups and Roles but the Administration menu does not show up for them. That is how I want it but I had assumed that if I gave access to the Administration area, that the Administration menu would be made available.

Either way, this did solve my issue, so thank you!
