We are receiving a maximum open cursors error - attached is the error. Has anyone seen anything like this or know what to do about this error?

    Hi,

Has anything changed in your environment recently that seems to have coincided with the appearance of this error message? I'd be interested to know if you've upgraded Oracle from 10g to 11g, upgraded Cascade, or migrated database servers. While there is always a chance this could be an issue with the application, I haven't had any other reports of it yet so I'd like to rule everything else out as well.

    • What version of Cascade Server are you on?
    • What version of Oracle are you on?
    • What is the OPEN_CURSORS value set to in your Oracle instance?
    • You mentioned that you've seen this occur on login and at other times. Can you provide more details on what operations in the system cause this error to be displayed?

    Thanks!

    Tim,

We increased our Open_Cursors as the error mentioned and that has relieved
the issue for now. What # do you recommend for this setting in a typical
Cascade instance. We plan to eventually support up to 800 users in the
    database probably around 75-100 concurrent.

    Hey Alvin,

I'm no Oracle expert so that question is a bit difficult for me to answer. I did find what appears to be a useful article on Monitoring Open and Cached Cursors that may help you out. The Oracle documentation for the setting can be found here.

If no one else on these forums chimes in with their Oracle experience, you may want to ping the Higher Education mailing list and ask what those users have this value set to.

    I hope this helps!
