zip file to install. Were there big changes in the directory
structure for moving from Tomcat 5 -> 6? There seems to be a few
things missing:

1) Missing temp directory - in $tomcat_home, there was
originally a temp directory. The server does startup without it,
but it does throw a SEVERE error at startup.

2) The Tomcat manager - by default, Tomcat 5 had the Tomcat
manager installed at $tomcat_home/server/manager. Having the
manager is crucial for our installation, as we have a custom
authentication module installed that takes away our ability to
login directly. Using the manager, we are able to create a separate
login page that allows for local (Cascade Server) authentication.
This seems to have been removed. From what I can tell about Tomcat
6, the manager would have been moved under
$tomcat_home/webapps/manager. Any chance you can put that back
in?

Please see my comments below:

Good call. We'll make sure this gets corrected in one of our
next releases. Keep an eye out for the Release Notes to see if this
item made it in. In the meantime, you can go ahead and create a
'temp' folder (if you haven't already) and that should do the
trick.

Interesting. We were not aware of anyone that was ever using
this since, as you mentioned, it was something that came by default
with our old Tomcat 5 package. These were indeed removed for our
Tomcat 6 installers. As of now, there aren't any plans to add it
back. I would recommend grabbing a distribution of Tomcat 6
directly from the site here, then copying
the directories you need into your *\tomcat\webapps* folder within
the Cascade directory.

Let me know if this helps!

Thanks

Timtag:help-archives.hannonhill.com,2010-02-09:Comment/93770782011-08-18T21:39:14Z2011-08-18T21:39:14ZManual Installer for 6.10/6.10.1

Tim,

I created the temp folder just to keep from getting the error.
Thanks for putting it on track for a future release.

I had gone ahead and downloaded the tomcat distribution before I
wrote the message, so I have it installed and it is working great.
I understand why you removed the tomcat manager. My concern was
that this was something that came packaged originally with cascade
server, and now it's not there. I know I have been approached by a
number of folks on how to have both custom and normal
authentication, and I have pointed them towards using the manager
webapp as the solution. I don't imagine that anybody else is going
to ask for that as a solution, but it is something I wanted you to
be aware of.

Thanks!

I definitely appreciate you letting us know. As I mentioned, we
were kind of caught off guard when you mentioned you were using the
manager app. If we do have more requests (or find that others were
relying on it), we'll definitely consider placing them back into
the installers somewhere down the road.

Thanks for the heads up re: the 'temp' folder!

Have a good one.

Tim
