I am a recent newcomer to Cascade Server and I was wondering if anybody knew if this scenario was possible and how I would go about implementing this application.

Basically, I would like it for my users to be able to upload a pdf and maybe add a text description and then have a page which has a grid of just thumbnails (of the first page of the pdf document) of all of the uploaded pdfs and when you click on the thumbnail it will take you to more detailed information about that pdf along with a download link.

I have created something similar in Drupal but was sure how to achieve this in Cascade.

Thanks

Rosstag:help-archives.hannonhill.com,2010-02-09:Comment/36972162010-11-09T16:32:03Z2010-11-09T16:32:03ZCreate Image thumbnails (of a PDF document) then link to pdf file

There are a couple ways this could be done.

I would probably make a PDF Information Page that has a Data Definition with at least a File Chooser for choosing the corresponding PDF and a File Chooser for choosing the corresponding thumbnail. You could make a custom metadata set for this Content Type making the Title and Summary fields inline for reuse on your index pages. You could also add a WYSIWYG to the Data Definition that would be for your more detailed information. You could then use a current page block and format combination to display your Content and Download link for your PDF Information Page.

You could then use a Content Type Index Block and format combination to output your list of PDFs, title, summary, and thumbnails for your index pages.

I hope this helps! Please let me know if you need any further clarification for this.

Penny
