working parts (data definition, velocity format, etc.). i'm trying
to use In-Context editing and am only able to provide access to
metadata fields. How can i get the Data Definitions in there for
editing?</p>
<p>Example:<br>
Main-Content (Data definition):<br>
banner-image (field)<br>
alt-tag (field)<br>
text (field)</p>
<p>We would like to be able to edit these in-context just like
metadata fields.</p>
<p>There is plenty of articles that say it's possible "if
configured", but there seems to be no "how to" on this.<br>
In-context editing example:<br>

<p>As long as your Content Type is configured with a Data
Definition, you can add Data Definition fields just like the
Metadata fields:</p>
<ul>
<li>Click the Editable Fields pane</li>
<li>Open the desired region</li>
<li>Click on the pencil icon next to Data Definition Fields</li>
<li>Select the desired groups and/or fields and click OK in the
modal</li>
<li>Save the Content Type</li>
</ul>
<p>I have attached a screenshot for reference as to what things
should look like.</p>
<p>Please let me know if you have any questions.</p>
<p>Thanks!</p></div>Ryan Griffithtag:help-archives.hannonhill.com,2010-02-09:Comment/379063202015-09-11T18:51:29Z2015-09-11T19:02:29ZSet up In-context editing to work with Data Definition Fields (only getting metadata)<div><p>Hi Ryan,</p>
<p>That was helpful. At first we only got the pencil for metadata.
After applying one (any random one) of our data definitions I could
see the pencil for Data Definitions. Unfortunately any Data
Definition I applied was for one of the regions and this caused me
to only be able to select fields for that data definition in all of
my regions.</p>
<p>Our Current setup:<br>
We have multiple regions, each with their own blocks, Data
Definitions, formats, etc. Not using one central "DEFAULT" region
that contains everything, because we tried to go modular,
especially on the home page, which has a lot of modules
(blocks/regions).</p>
<p>Screenshots attached:<br>
img1: Modular Home page (each region to be edited in-context)<br>
img2: I applied slideshow data definition to content type for
example<br>
img3: Here you can see that the chosen data definition's fields are
the only choices I have regardless of which region.</p>
<p>Is there something I can do to get each Region to have it's own
Data Definition fields to choose from within Content Type.</p>
<p>Please let me know.</p>
<p>Thanks,<br>

<p>Currently, the Data Definition fields will only be based on the
Data Definition that is associated with the Content Type, so
there's no way around that at the moment.</p>
<p>That being said, the user should be able to edit the Block that
is attached to that region in-context if the following conditions
are met:</p>
<ul>
<li>you enable the <strong>Allow XHTML/Block contents to be edited
in-context</strong> option for the region</li>
<li>the user has EDIT permissions to the Block that is attached to
that region</li>
</ul>
<p>Please let me know if you have any questions.</p>
