Independent Text/Media in Data Definitions

Heyo,

I'm in the middle of setting up a data definition for a new page that will allow users to choose from an approved list of icons to insert on their page. At the moment, the icons can be chosen in a drop-down using only the icon name. Although the name is helpful, it still wouldn't allow the user to see the icon until they actually submit their changes and view the page.

I figured a way around this would be to set up a separate page that will allow users to view icons all together rather than resubmitting in Cascade to view a different icon. I was wondering if it was possible insert text into that data definition that contained something along the lines of "See https://www.findKewlIcons.com to find your icon". This text wouldn't be interacted with other than to possibly copy the url.

Side Question: I'm guessing not, but is it possible to place the icons directly in the data definition so this separate page wouldn't be needed?

    Hi Jacob,

It is not currently possible to include HTML within the field's label or pull the icons directly into the Data Definition. Your current setup of having a reference page would be the best solution.

You can certainly add the text See https://www.findKewlIcons.com to find your icon to the field's label, but the user would have to copy/paste the URL from the label to their browser.

That being said, we are reworking the way the help text for Data Definition fields is displayed in Cascade 8 (Ocho), so it may be something for us to consider down the road. Also, I did find this related suggestion on our Idea Exchange to add an arbitrary text field to Data Definitions. I recommend voting this suggestion up if you would like for it to be considered for a future release.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

    Thanks!

Jacob, I just added you to our Idea Exchange so that you can access the Idea that Ryan referred to above.

    Take care!
