Once migrated to a Site, links can no longer reference assets
within the Global area, the referenced asset must be within either
the same Site or a different Site. The
site://Global

is more like a placeholder to let you know the asset is within
Global.

At this point, either these assets would need to be moved to a
Site as well or you would need to change the link to an external
link as opposed to an internal link. Either way, you would need to
update the link accordingly.

When you migrated the folder, was it just a "sub-site" of sorts?
If so, I think you may have been better off migrating the entire
base folder of Global first. This way, you could simply move the
sub-site folders into a new empty Site as opposed to migrate them
individually.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks!

Ryan Griffithtag:help-archives.hannonhill.com,2010-02-09:Comment/359418952015-02-03T17:10:09Z2015-02-03T17:10:09ZRelative links publishing with site://Global after migration

If I migrate the rest of Global to a separate site at this

Unfortunately, at this point, the links would remain and you
would need to modify them manually regardless.

Can I use the Replace feature to change the links? I know how to
do it to replace site://Global/swosu/

You might be able to use search/replace to update the links. I'm
not sure if it will catch all references; however, such as
choosers. As a test, you could try just running the initial search
of:

Search term: site://Global/swosu/
Replacement: site://Global/swosu/

This will give you a sense of what is returned without actually
replacing anything. If the results look promising, you would update
the Replacement Term from
Global
to your new Site's
name.

wondered about added the file extension at the end of .aspx. Is

Because these are links to assets within Cascade, you shouldn't
need to worry about the file extensions. File extensions are added
on publish.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

I wanted to follow up to let you know that I've spoken with our
Services team to see if they have run into this situation with
other clients.

As
I mentioned previosly, they indicated the ideal migration
process would involve moving everything within Global and moving
the various sub-sites after the migration. This way, your
references should be updated correctly. The problem of course, is
in order to "undo" the migration, you would need to restore your
database to prior to the migration, which may result in loss of
data depending on how many changes were made since the backup.

That being said, migrating in chunks is definitely doable, it's
just more of a manual process in terms of updating the references
that were pointing to assets within the Global area that were not
migrated.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks!

Ryan Griffithtag:help-archives.hannonhill.com,2010-02-09:Comment/359418952015-02-03T19:59:29Z2015-02-03T19:59:29ZRelative links publishing with site://Global after migration

So it sounds like my best bet is to deal with these manual
updates for this particular folder that I already migrated and then
for the rest of the folders in Global right now, I’d better
go ahead and migrate all of it. I will need to break it down into
smaller chunks later but at least I wouldn’t be going through
this mess again, right?

The steps you listed sound like the best direction at this
point. This would avoid the potential loss of data if you were to
revert back to prior to running the migration.

Once you are able to migrate the rest of what is Global, moving
the smaller chunks should be much easier.

I was going over some older discussions and noticed this one is
still open. How have things been going with your Global to Sites
migration?

OUT of the Global area. Yeah!

Sites.
