The key, as you mentioned, is to make sure that the copy of the site is self-contained and doesn't rely on anything that is still stored in the original site.</p>
<p>There isn't really an automated way of doing this unless you create a web services script to do the work for you.</p>
<p>You may want to check out <a href="http://help.hannonhill.com/discussions/news/32-cascade-to-cascade-web-services-copy-script-on-github">this post</a> as it is somewhat related to what you are trying to do. Off-hand, I'm not sure if that works for copying assets in the Global area but you may want to check it out.</p>
