Create a new site with the content in Global area without moving the content

Hi there,

I need to create a new site using some existing content in the Global area while not moving the existing content itself to the new site. This will be done on the same Cascade instance (v6.7). I am planning to make a copy of the content that will be used as the base content for the new site; then create a copy of the target used by the content along with new copies of configuration sets, templates, regions, formats used by the target; then use Test Migration to make sure the new copy of the content folder is self-contained; last to use the site migration wizard to move the copied content along with the copied target out to create the new site. Has anyone tried this before for a mid-sized site? Did it work? Is there an automated way of doing this?

Thanks in advance!

The steps you mentioned above should allow you to migrate over a copy of your site from the Global area over into a Site object. The key, as you mentioned, is to make sure that the copy of the site is self-contained and doesn't rely on anything that is still stored in the original site.

There isn't really an automated way of doing this unless you create a web services script to do the work for you.

You may want to check out this post as it is somewhat related to what you are trying to do. Off-hand, I'm not sure if that works for copying assets in the Global area but you may want to check it out.

    Hope this helps.
