I have created an XHTML/Data Definition block and I have input text in the Display Name in User Metadata section.

I am now creating a format for the XHTML/Data Definition block but I am unable to retrieve the Display Name. When I look at the block in XML view the display Name doesn't even show up.

Is there a way I can get this display name as well as other custom metadata fields I have added to this XHTML/Data Definition block?

    Hi Giorgio,

Metadata is not available as raw data when you attach a block to a region. It is available only when you index such an asset.

Why do you need the metadata of the block? Why can't you add the display name field in the data definition associated with the block?

My block has a few pages in it and I would like to use the display name of the block as the title of the section it is in.

I assume that you are using a data definition block with page choosers. The best way to do this is to add a field to the data definition for section title.

I am using a data definition block but it is meant to be a generic data definition block.
