I'd be happy to try and help you out.

Using the site export from Github and the steps you provided, I
was not able to reproduce the issue in which
$string

is displayed instead of content in my local 7.8 instance. Here are
the steps I used to reproduce:

Import Bricks.csse

Edit a page with a default WYSIWYG

apply
_cascade/blocks/index/calling-page-bricks

block to DEFAULT

apply
_cascade/formats/wysiwyg-default
format to
DEFAULT

Added
[president]
to the WYSIWYG

Confirm the page showed the brick's content

When you have a moment, can you confirm if your page has a Data
Definition applied to it, or is it using the Default WYSIWYG?

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks!

Ryan Griffithtag:help-archives.hannonhill.com,2010-02-09:Comment/311377152014-01-16T16:43:12Z2014-01-16T16:55:59ZBricks example

Thanks, it worked when I removed my custom data definition from
the content type. It might help to add a generic content type and a
generic page to Bricks.csse.

Michael McGinnis
