WinZip and Zip Archive

Hi,

A Web editor with manager level access to Cascade at Brandeis uses the zip archive functionality regularly. He recently upgraded to WinZip v15.5 and tells me the Zip Archive functionality no longer works. This seems to be because in the latest version of WinZip is creating zipx files. I'm not sure if there is a setting on his end in WinZip or if .zipx is something a later version of Cascade supports. Personally I'm on a Mac and use the built-in compress functionality. I believe the built-in functionality in Windows doesn't work for this though.

We are currently running v6.4.5 in production. We have 6.8.2 in test and are updating internal documentation. We plan to upgrade to 6.8.2 at the end of the month.

    Hi Ian,

    I don't believe the Zip Archive functionality has changed recently at all within Cascade Server. In Winzip, there should be an option to create 'Legacy Zip 2.0' files. Can you have your user make sure that this is selected for their Winzip preferences?

    Once that option has been configured, let me know if that corrects the problem.

    That did the trick. He says it works now, though is curious if Cascade has plans to work with zipx in the future.

    Good deal. There aren't any plans yet, but this is the first case I've heard of someone attempting to use the zipx format. As far as I know, the format is only used in the Winzip utility. If you'd like, feel free to add an idea to our Idea Exchange about supporting the Zipx format for the Zip Archive tool in Cascade.
