<p>In my organisation we use Cascade Server for managing our
website. We went online a few days ago, and I have a problem with
pdf files. I can upolad them and they appear in the pdf folder, but
when I click on a link to a pdf document (to make sure it's there),
my browser hangs and I have to close it. I use Internet Explorer 8.
I will be grateful for a solution to this problem.<br>

<p>Just a few questions to see if we can narrow things down a
bit:</p>
<ul>
<li>Can you confirm the file uploaded into Cascade contains the
<strong>.pdf</strong> extension within it's name?</li>
<li>Do you experience this behavior when viewing any PDF document,
even outside of Cascade? For example, try viewing this white paper
from Adobe's website: <a href=
"http://www.adobe.com/accessibility/products/acrobat/pdf/acrobat-x-pdf-accessibility-overview.pdf">
http://www.adobe.com/accessibility/products/acrobat/pdf/acrobat-x-p...</a>.</li>
<li>Do you only experience this behavior within Internet
Explorer?</li>
</ul>
<p>Please let me know if you have any questions.</p>
<p>Thanks</p></div>Ryan Griffithtag:help-archives.hannonhill.com,2010-02-09:Comment/195043702012-10-10T15:38:19Z2012-10-10T15:38:19Zproblem with pdf files<div><p>Hi Ryan,</p>
<p>All pdf files that were uploaded have the .pdf extension. I
don't have any problems opening pdf files elsewhere, including our
website (you can see it if you like, it's <a href=
"http://esm.europa.eu/index.htm">http://esm.europa.eu/index.htm</a></p>
<p>I only use Internet Explorer, so I can't say how it is with
other browsers.</p>
<p>Kind regards,<br>

<p>Thank you for the follow up.</p>
<p>I suspect there may be an issue with either Internet Explorer or
Adobe Reader when Cascade attempts to "preview" the PDF file within
the preview pane.</p>
<p>When you have a moment, try the suggestions on <a href=

this Microsoft page</a> to see if we can rule this out.</p>
<p>Please let me know if you have any questions.</p>

<p>You were right that it was an issue with the browser. Even with
the solutions in the discussion thread, the pdf problem persisted
with IE8. I don't like IE9, so I tried Mozilla Firefox, and all
links to pdf docs open normally.</p>
<p>Thanks,<br>

<p>Thank you for the follow up, it definitely sounds IE specific.
I'm curious, did you try to uninstall and re-install your Adobe
Reader/Acrobat?</p></div>Ryan Griffith
