Campus Map question

Hello,

We're looking to upgrade our campus map to a Google Map and I found the campus map site Hannon Hill included on the Server Exchange.

I imported the site and I'm not sure it's working like it supposed to or how Penny presented it at the conference. I've messed with the settings and and tried to include our own KML file and nothing seems to change. It's just looks like an embedded google map.

Am I missing something?

    Matthew,

For for the icons and kml file to show, they need to be published first. It can only display live files.

Also, you need to update the Site URL that is in the Categories block to reflect where the map is being published.

    See if that helps.

    Matthew,

I just wanted to reach back out to see if that worked for you. Hope all is well!

    Pretty good so far!

I'm just running into issues connecting to the toggles on the right side of the site with our school's KML layer and the icons for the different portions of the campus disappeared.

Any ideas/suggestions as to solve this?

Are you wanting the toggles on the right to turn on or off the different KML layers? or are you trying to show the layers and then turn on or off the different markers on top of the layers?

I think I'd like them to do the different KML layers. But without the icons now I guess I'm just confused haha.

I'm not sure what I did differently to make the icons not work. I just changed the location and uploaded a different KML file.

If you changed the path, you might need to update the format to have the current path. Some of the path had to be hard coded since it was live files.

If you are wanting to toggle layers, you would also need to update the format to have those layers toggle. Currently only the icons can toggle.

I was able to figure that out thanks!

I have another question...I'm trying to implement this into our template. In order to do it I changed it from being a page to a block. All the content in now in a block with the same data definiton. This seems to work out fine in the bare-bones campus map page but it doesn't display the content when within another template.

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong that prevents it from displaying it the same way. Maybe I forgot something?

    Matthew,

Does it work at all once you change it from a page to a block?

Also, it might be easier to add the needed template regions to the map
template so that it works the same.

    Hey Graham,

I got it partially working but I'm not sure this current campus map will suite our needs.

My director was going through emails from a little over a year ago and you had posted something to the Higher Education Cascade User Group List.

You had help create the Jacksonville Campus map. How did you go about achieving this look and feel for a campus map and did you even end up integrating it into Cascade?

    Matthew,

Sorry for the delayed response. We didn't end up putting it in Cascade, but for sure some aspects of it could have been. We wanted to mimic the look of Campus Bird without having to pay the money for it.

    http://www.jsu.edu/campusmap/

We did a few different things:

    • We built the overlay using photoshop
    • We used software to slice it and overlay on top of google maps (i'm trying to find the software and will get back to you with the name)
    • Then we used the same concept as the Campus Map module to toggle on and off different icons

I can put you in contact with Chris Newsome (he was the other guy on the Web Team w/ me at JSU and he is still there)
