Templates losing indents within code

Not sure if it is indeed a bug or if I am doing something wrong, but sometimes I lost all indents from the HTML code after saving a template. Anyone else having this problem or have solved this problem? It just becomes extremely messy and hard to read...

    Hi gsateles,

I don't believe I've come across that before. Could you provide me with the browser (and version) you are using and the version of Cascade?

    Thanks.

    Hi

Sorry for the delay in response. I have tried Chrome 19.0.1084.56 and Firefox 10.0, both happen the same thing. I have tried uploading a template file and copying and pasting code. After I save it and return to the template file, all indents are gone. We currently have Cascade 7.0, as our IT staff has not yet installed the latest updates.

    Hi Gabriela,

Thank you for getting back to us. I was unable to reproduce this behavior while testing locally with Cascade 7 and 7.0.1 using the following OS/browser combinations:

    • OS X: Chrome 20
    • OS X: Firefox 14
    • OS X: Safari 5.1.7
    • Windows Vista: Firefox 14
    • Windows 7: IE8

Just a few more questions to see if we can narrow things down a bit:

    • Have you tried newer versions of the browsers you listed above?
    • Have you tried adding the indents back in after the first initial save?
    • Would you be able to attach your template so I can look into this further?

    Thanks!

    Hi Ryan,

Because of administrative reasons, I can't update the browsers on my work computer. But my supervisor is also having issues with the indents disappearing, so I am not sure whether it is a browser issue. It displays just fine on the browser (with indents) throughout the submit process. Only when I reopen the template the indents disappear.

I have tried adding the indents manually on cascade and, after saving, they continue disappearing.

I have attached the original file. I'm still on the process of importing it into cascade.

    Hi Gabriela,

It looks like there were some & that were not provided as entities, causing the Template to be considered invalid. When a Template is found to be invalid, Cascade will run it through a Tidy process to attempt to clean up the code, which also results in tabbing to be removed.

I tried replacing the two occurrences of & with & in my local instance and that appeared to do the trick.

A few things I did notice as well:

    • Your template was missing a DEFAULT region. I'm thinking you are looking to place this within <div class="main-col"> instead of the <systenm- partial tag.
    • The HTML tag conditionals at the top are rewritten because Templates within Cascade currently require an <html> tag. Even if one is supplied within a conditional, Cascade does not consider this to be "valid" so it attempts to rewrite/add the tag for you. There is a feature request on the idea exchange to allow this, feel free to vote and comment if you feel this would be a good feature to be implemented in a future version of Cascade.

Please let us know if you have any questions.

    Thanks.
