Workflow and comments

Hi -

We've got 7.8.1 in a test environment, and I just wanted to verify a
behavior I am seeing -- on a page that has workflow the comments (that are
now part of the floating submit box) are stripped from the page on submit.
They aren't in the email notification sent for the workflow, they don't
show up in the comments section when you look at versions ... they just
seem to vanish in the nether.

Is this an expected behavior? Or perhaps a setting we can change? I'd think
that keeping the comments on a workflow page in particular would be helpful.

Thanks,
Julia

    Hi Julia,

I tried to reproduce this locally but was not able to do so on my 7.8.3 instance. This could just be due to a difference in the steps I'm taking or some slight differences in the Workflow I'm using. When you have the chance, can you please do the following:

    • Attach the Workflow XML for the Workflow that is being applied to your Page(s)
    • Provide detailed steps that you are taking to replicate the behavior
    • Reproduce the behavior, then immediately attach your latest cascade.log file here. This way I can check to see if there are any obvious errors being thrown in the background when the system attempts to save the comments. You can find the cascade.log file under Administration -> Dashboard -> Logs - or - on the application server itself in the tomcat/logs directory.

    Thanks!

    Hi Tim -

We're doing a little more troubleshooting in house, then Francisco or I
can send these off to you if we aren't able to resolve in-house.

OK, sounds good Julia! It could very well be a bug, so just let us know and we'll do what we can to track it down.

    Hi, Tim,
I see the same issue using "canned" workflows in 7.8.3. Has anybody else noticed the problem ?

If you want to replicate the issue:
    - edit a page in a directory with workflow - edter whatever text in the "What did you change" textbox - enter something else in the workflow comments box

    Once everything is settled,
go to the page and check "Versions" ... the "Comments" are blank

Got it! OK, I see the behavior as well now. I went ahead and logged an issue to correct the problem here. I don't have an ETA for a fix, but I'm hoping we'll have this corrected in one of our next couple of patch releases.

Apologies for the inconvenience! Let me know if you have any further questions.

    Thanks
